SAKER SOM PÅGÅR
Idag är det presentation av terminens största projekt, Invisible Cities. Eftersom min grupp, på nåt övernaturligt vänster, inte bara har gjort något som vi gillar och (faktiskt) tycker är rätt coolt utan dessutom har lyckats göra det i mänskligt tempo inom tidsramarna så har vi lite sovmorgon idag. Presentationen planerades igår (lyckan när jag fick skriva den <3<3<3. Fast så klart med hjälp och input från gruppen, måste kväsa mina diktatoriska claims) så idag träffaas gruppen, hör och häpna, 9.30!! Istället för 9.00 som är min vanliga morgontid atm. Men det är så stort att inte bara ha kunnat gå hem vid 17 i en vecka utan dessutom kunna ta sovmorgon. Vete fan vad som hänt, och eftersom jag gillar vår grej så mycket kommer säkert bedömarna hata den... Det är typ omöjligt att avgöra vad som kommer gillas inför en projektredovisning och ofta blir man effing mind blown av deras kommentarer på saker som jag tycker är så fula och DÅLIGA. Vi ska dessutom ha två bedömare från andra årskurser den här gången så det är fan extra nervöst. Och svårt. Merde.
I redovisningen ska vi inte läsa upp Calvinos text om städerna utan bara beskriva dem utifrån våra egna projekt så här kommer vår presentation av Raissa som jag satt och knåpade ihop igår:
Raissa is known as the city of sadness. It is a dull, harsh and generally unhappy place, with rigid, repetitive architecture. What little happiness there is in Raissa only appears in the public spaces, as a fleeting spark in a short meeting between strangers. It then quickly moves on, often without ever being noticed, to occur somewhere else. And so the inhabitants of Raissa experience happiness without ever being aware of it.
Our concept for Raissa is the connections between the momentairily happy places where theese moments occur and the sense that this chain of happy events create an unnoticed happy city within the unhappy city. Because we wanted to create a strict and repetitive form in order to convey our vision of Raissa we chose to work with cubes. The city within a city is quite litterarily represented by the cubes of the 1:1 model that are placed one within the other. They all have the same proportions but they differ in scale. The cubes are also an element that we use in the smaller model and in the collage.
An important aspect of our concept is also to show the passage of time and to visually represent the difference between the happy and unhappy places. Instinctually we tend to connect happiness to light and open spaces and unhappiness to darkness. When you enter our 1:1 model it is dark and very cramped, it is the unhappy city. When the model unravels space is created and light penetrates the construction, it reveals the happy city. Here the city within a city is presented in a more abstract way.
In the static representation of Raissa (the collage and the 1:500 model) the windling lines of gold represent happiness and time. For us gold represents the spiritual quality of happiness and it is also a good contrast to the gray and black elements. The private spaces in the collage and the small model are black as they are farthest away from the possibility of happiness. The public space, here defined as streets and plazas, is shown in grey since it has a potential of happiness but is still by nature unhappy.
